DROPS Cotton Merino is a blend of 50% extra fine merino wool and long cotton fibers.
The merino wool and the cotton have been carded separately. By doing so, each fiber keeps its spotlight and their own properties are better enhanced. When you look closely at the yarn ball, you can see how they are distinguished from each other by their textures and slight color variation that will help you create a project full of details.
DROPS Cotton Merino is a round and elastic yarn, which makes it a thread especially suitable for patterns with a lot of texture, such as braids and moss stitch. This yarn works best when knitted with rather tight tension.
Being made of a large number of thin threads, proper care of the garment knit with this yarn is very important: don't wash your garment too warm, never leave it to soak and let the garment dry flat.
Like all DROPS merino yarns, the wool for DROPS Cotton Merino comes from sheep raised in free range cruelty-free farms in South America. The wool has a superwash treatment that allows to put the garments in the washing machine without fear to shrink or damage them.
DROPS Cotton Merino has been made in the European Union and has the STANDARD 100 Class I certificate (certificate number 25.3.0016) by Oeko-Tex® that que guarantees that it is free from any harmful chemicals and that it is safe for human use. Moreover, Class I is the highest level and it means that it is a suitable thread for baby garments.
The soft merino wool and the thin cotton make of this a very enjoyable to knit yarn with which to make comfortable garments with clear and regular stitches. DROPS Cotton Merino, thanks to thermoregulator properties of merino wool and the 50% cotton in its composition, is perfect to knit spring and autumn garments and blankets that provide warmth without being to hot. Also, being a cotton and superwash merino wool blend, this is the perfect yarn to make sweaters for chidren, resistant and easy to wash.
To knit a long-sleeve sweater in size L you will need around 11 yarn balls. A sweater for a 7 years child will take around 6 yarn balls. Remember that this is just an approximation and that your own tension, the stitch pattern and the technique you use will modify this calculation.
